AKA Bowenwork
Bowen for the Nervous System
Light-touch bodywork that coaxes your system out of fight-or-flight and back to rest.
Bowen Therapy is a gentle, hands-on technique made up of precise, light-touch moves over muscle and connective tissue, with deliberate pauses in between. Those pauses are the heart of the work, as they give your nervous system room to respond and recalibrate, encouraging the shift from "high alert" toward "rest and digest."
What it helps with
- Stress and feeling stuck in "fight or flight"
- Tension headaches, tight shoulders, achey legs and feet, and other everyday aches
- Restless sleep and difficulty winding down
- Encourage the body's own healing systems to activate
- A craving for calm and a sense of balance
What a session feels like
Bowen is subtle and unhurried. The movements are light touch but felt. You will likely still feel it working during the brief pauses between segments. You stay comfortable and you can remain clothed if you want to. Most people find the gentle pace deeply relaxing and it's common to drift toward that soft, between-waking-and-sleeping state where the body does its best repair work. Your snores are compliments :) After a session, you can get the most out of the work by going for a short walk and staying hydrated.
Is it right for me?
Because it's so gentle, Bowen suits a wide range of people and sensitivities. If you're not sure whether it's the right fit, reach out and we'll talk it through. Truthfully, anyone can benefit from Bowen therapy and it complements other therapies, so long as Bowen is given at least 5-7 days to fully unfurl.
